Lead HR Where People and Purpose Come Together

Stone Belt is looking for an experienced Director of Human Resources who can balance HR leadership with the day-to-day realities of supporting a large and diverse workforce.

With approximately 450 employees across three counties, our HR team supports people working in many different roles and settings. We are looking for an HR leader who understands that good HR is about more than policies and compliance. It is about building trust, helping supervisors succeed, developing employees, addressing challenges fairly, and creating a workplace where people want to stay and grow.

What You'll Do

As Director of Human Resources, you'll lead the day-to-day work of HR while helping shape the bigger picture. You'll work closely with agency leadership, supervisors, employees, and the HR team throughout Stone Belt.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading, supporting, and developing the Human Resources team
  • Helping Stone Belt attract, develop, and retain a strong workforce
  • Providing practical guidance to supervisors and employees on employee relations and workplace concerns
  • Overseeing recruiting, hiring, onboarding, staff development, and training initiatives
  • Supporting compensation and employee benefit programs
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state employment requirements and agency policies
  • Strengthening employee communication across an organization with staff working in multiple locations
  • Developing and supporting performance management and employee development programs
  • Serving as a resource for conflict resolution and employee grievances
  • Using HR information and trends to help leadership make informed decisions
  • Managing the HR department budget and related reporting
  • Participating in agency planning and leadership discussions
  • Maintaining a visible, approachable HR presence throughout the agency

Who We're Looking For

This position is a good fit for an experienced HR professional who enjoys leading people while still being involved in the work.

You'll need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field
  • At least five years of Human Resources management experience
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR practices
  • Experience supervising and developing staff
  • Experience managing or monitoring budgets
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Sound judgment when handling difficult or sensitive situations
  • The ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of an organization
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • The ability to travel independently among Stone Belt locations

SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is strongly preferred. Candidates who have demonstrated significant HR leadership experience and are actively pursuing certification may also be considered.

What We're Looking for in an HR Leader

You'll be successful here if you're approachable but willing to have difficult conversations, confident enough to make decisions, and comfortable saying, "I need to look into that," when you don't have an immediate answer.

Our Director of Human Resources needs to be able to move from a leadership discussion to an employee concern, a compliance question, a recruiting challenge, or a supervisor who needs help working through a difficult situation.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who believes HR can hold people accountable while treating them with dignity, fairness, and respect.
